Kansas City Restoration School is a Sudbury-inspired school. Soon, we will be open to students from the age of 4 to 18.
The first Sudbury school was born in Massachusetts in 1968 in the town of Framingham, after a group of dedicated teachers and parents came together to provide a more meaningful education for their children.
Sudbury schools are democratically run together by students and staff to ensure the safety and peaceful daily lives of everyone.

In this model, life is the curriculum. This means that children, just like adults, are treated as people who have rights and who can be trusted to make their own decisions and choices about their education.

Based on evidence from anthropology, psychology, and history that children naturally learn by playing, experimenting, and interacting, this means that there is no curriculum, no required academics, and no testing.
Students are entirely free to pursue their own interests at their own pace throughout the day.
Our Vision

KC Restoration School is a school run by direct democracy where children are free, empowered, and trusted to make their own decisions about their education.

It's a community where students ages 4 through 18 are provided with the time and support needed to explore their own interests and encouraged to change their mindset of how learning can be achieved.

Equity. Freedom. Reality.

Our Mission
Our Mission

The KC Restoration School sets children free to learn through self-paced exploration, purpose discovery, and engagement in an opportunity-rich learning center.

We provide an educational environment that fosters the natural joy of learning within a consent-based democracy. Our mission is to activate the learning journeys of our community through our K-12 school and community education programs.

"Childhood is not a race to see how quickly a child can read, write and count. It is a small window of time to learn and develop at the pace that is right for each individual child.

Earlier is not better."

Magda Gerber, American Early Childhood Educator
