In Honeybee Democracy, author Thomas D. Seeley, invites us to learn from these essential pollinators. "...honeybees stake everything on a process that includes the collective fact-finding, vigorous debate, and [consent] building."
"Honeybees work collaboratively toward a single aim, delegate tasks, and make decisions by consent," writes John Buck in his book, We the People: Consenting to a Deeper Democracy.
At the Kansas City Sudbury School we are working to build an organization that is inspired and governed by these principles, through a democratic process known as sociocracy. As a democratic school we want to truly embody the best practices of democracies from around the world. Sociocracy, or democratic governance by consent, is a mindful and equitable process for effective collaboration. Learn more here.
The KC Sudbury School will have many circles practicing sociocracy.
The Board of Directors
The School Meeting [SM] (all students and staff)
Restorative Circle [RC] (problem-solving and reconciliation practices)
Plus others that will be created to support youth driven projects and businesses, as needed.
We are building a school like no other! Our inspirations are more than ideals, we are a community of practice.
